定义

间接证实是相对于直接证实而言的。最早由英国哲学家，逻辑经验主义者艾耶尔（Ayer，Alfred Jules，1910—1989）提出。艾耶尔在《语言、真理和逻辑》中指出如果一个陈述本身是观察陈述，或它与一个或几个观察陈述之合取，至少导致一个观察陈述，而这个观察陈述不可能从这些其他的前提中单独推演出来，那么这个陈述便是直接地可证实的。如果一个陈述满足下列两个条件：“第一，这个陈述与其他某些前提之合取，导致一个或几个直接可证实的陈述，这些陈述不可能从这些其他前提中单独推演出来；第二，这些其他前提不包括任何这样的陈述，它既不是分析的，又不是直接可证实的，也不是能作为间接可证实的而被独立证实。那么，这个陈述便是间接地可证实的”（金炳华，2003：387）。
