Short Fife

定义

唐代乐器。竹制，音管较短，横式吹奏。音孔、吹孔与横笛基本相同。音色明亮、清脆。属吹奏乐器之高音乐器。敦煌壁画唐代洞窟中有短笛图像，如第159窟上部自鸣乐中有短笛乐器，音孔、吹孔清晰可见。第360窟(中唐)北壁《药师经变》上部自鸣乐器也有1件短笛。第9窟(晚唐)南披自鸣乐器中也有1件短笛图像。

A musical instrument invented in Tang Dynasty. It is made of bamboo with short tube. When playing it, the musician shall hold it horizontally. The holes and method of playing are basically the same as Fife. The sound is clean and bright and it is a high instrument. There are images of Short Fife on the frescoes of Cave No.159 and Cave No. 360. In Cave No.159, the up part of frescoes depicts anr image of the Short Fife, the sound hole and the blowing holes of which can be clearly figured out. There is also an image of Short Fife on the north wall of Bhaisajyaguru Sutra illustration in Cave No.360 (Middle Tang Dynasty) and one on the south wall of Cave No.9 (Late Tang Dynasty).
