定义

改造主观世界和客观世界，是毛泽东对无产阶级和革命人民改造世界的双重任务的概括（王进，1993：500）。“无产阶级和革命人民改造世界的斗争，包括实现下述的任务：改造客观世界，也改造自己的主观世界——改造自己的认识能力，改造主观世界同客观世界的关系”（毛泽东，1991：296）。1937年，毛泽东在《实践论》中提出，无产阶级改造世界的任务包括改造客观世界和改造主观世界两个方面。客观世界是指独立于人们的意识之外的存在的物质世界。主观世界是指包括人的心理境界、精神状态及认识能力的人的精神世界和意识世界。客观世界独立存在；主观世界则是客观世界在人脑中的能动的反映。在毛泽东看来，改造客观世界与改造主观世界具有同等重要的意义。无产阶级应该在改造客观世界的实践过程中不断改造自己的主观世界、改造自己的认识能力、改造主观世界同客观世界的关系，从而使自己的认识能客观地反映事物的规律（王进，1993：500）。毛泽东所明确提出的改造“两个世界”的思想，是马克思主义哲学发展史上将改造主体作为重要的哲学命题而提出来的首次。毛泽东所明确提出的改造“两个世界”的思想为马克思主义哲学的历史使命和研究视域开辟了新的广阔的空间，具有重要的理论意义和实践意义（刘林元，2006：30）。
