1.通，到达 reach; get to：抵～ dǐdá reach/ 四通八～ sìtōng-bādá extend in all directions/ 火车从北京直～上海 Huǒchē cóng Běijīng zhídá Shànghǎi. The train travels from Beijing directly to Shanghai.
2.通达，对事理认识得透彻 understand thoroughly：通～事理 tōngdá shìlǐ showing good sense; sensible/ 通权～变（不拘常规，采取变通办法） tōngquán-dábiàn act as the occasion requires; adapt oneself to circumstances ［达观 -guān］对不如意的事情看得开 take things philosophically
