哑（啞） yǎ

1.由于生理缺陷或疾病而不能说话 mute; dumb, unable to speak because of physical defect or disease：聋～ lóngyǎ deaf and dumb/ ～口无言（喻无话可说） yǎkǒu-wúyán dumbfound; be rendered speechless (fig. be left without an argument) ［哑巴 -bɑ］1.同“哑

2.嗓子干涩发音困难或不清楚 hoarse; husky, (of a person) difficult to speak clearly, because of a sore or dry throat：嗓子喊～了 sǎngzi hǎnyǎ le shout oneself hoarse
3.无声的 silent, soundless：～剧 yǎjù pantomime/ ～铃（一种运动器械） yǎlíng dumbbell (an apparatus for physical exercises)
