第欧根尼·拉尔修是罗马帝国时代的古希腊哲学史家，犬儒学派的主要代表。相传他生于西诺柏，生平不详。传说第欧根尼·拉尔修在雅典求教于哲学家安提斯泰尼，并过着极其简朴的原始生活，并以折磨自己的肉体来锻炼自己的意志，成为苦行的典型。他曾被海盗卖为奴隶，在柯林多被赎。第欧根尼·拉尔修的学说是犬儒学派的代表，他认为幸福固然在于满足自然欲望，但自然欲望应该是极其单纯的、原始的，凡违反这种简单、原始的自然欲求的人世习俗和享受都应该被弃绝；而为满足那些简单、原始欲望的行为，如性行为等，应行之于光天化日之下（via: http://www.baike.com/wiki/第欧根尼·拉尔修）。这种学说遭到了不少人的批判，甚至有人说他象“狗”一样无耻。但是，第欧根尼·拉尔修在智慧方面却受到雅典人的尊敬，据说他还曾见过亚历山大大帝，并受赞赏，他以希腊文写作，编有古希腊哲学史料《名哲言行录》。第欧根尼·拉尔修的传闻轶事大多是通过他的学生苏格拉底、攸波洛、比翁等人的宣扬而为后人所致，他的学说对后世，特别是对斯多阿学派有相当大的影响。
