“Karma Story of the King of Huanxi”

唐代因缘类作品。叙述欢喜国王夫人有相，命定七日后身亡，遂于命终前一日，礼拜石室比丘尼，受戒皈依，以此功德，命终生天。半年后却下天界，现身说法，欢喜国王礼拜皈依。

A karma story, known as yuanqi or yinyuan in Chinese, from the Tang Dynasty. In the story, the wife of the King of Huanxi (“happiness” or “joy”), came to know that she was destined to die in seven days; therefore, the day before her death, she went to venerate an eminent bhikṣuṇī (fully-ordained female monastic) named Shishi, and was initiated into nunhood after taking refuge in the precepts. The merit of becoming a Buddhist enabled her to ascend to heaven after her death. Half a year later, she took rebirth and descended from heaven to preach Buddhist teachings to the king; the king also followed the Eight Precepts practice and became a follower of Buddhism.
