塞西尔·戴伊·刘易斯（Cecil Day Lewis，1904-1972），生于爱尔兰。戴伊·刘易斯于1906年随家人来到英国，在英国接受教育。在牛津求学期间，他饱读经典，结识了诗人奥顿，受其影响，开始诗歌创作，成为一位“奥顿派诗人”。1925年他的第一部诗集《山毛榉的维吉尔》出版。1927年他协助奥顿编辑《牛津诗歌》。代表作品有：《过渡诗歌》、《从羽毛到铁》、《磁山》、《舞蹈时间及其他》、《诺亚与洪水》、《我们一定要采取行动》、《左翼评论》、《死亡序曲》，等等。戴伊·刘易斯早年接受了激进的左派思想，信仰共产主义，同斯蒂芬·斯彭德一样都用文字表达政治见解，所以他的早期诗歌有浓重的政治色彩和说教意味（常耀信等，2001：260-263）。
