定义

工具理性批判（the critique of instrumental reason），是法兰克福学派用语。指对科学技术由解放人的工具转化为奴役人的和毁灭人性的工具的批判（余元培，2009：215）。法兰克福学派认为人有统治自然界的极权主义欲望，把科技理性当作控制自然的工具，运用理性迫使自然界为人类服务。但由此产生了双重的社会后果：一方面机器的进化导致了对人的全面奴役，它控制了生产程序、国家机构和个人的劳动时间、闲暇时间和空闲时间，科技和工艺理性成了统治社会生活的主要工具；另一方面，生产工具越来越复杂化和精确化，使人愈以沦为机器超纵的对象，屈从于各种技术规则，从而使个体的人的主体性出现危机，独立判断能力、想象力，自由精神大为削弱，导致人性丧失和人的自我毁灭（万中航，2003：254）。
