十一苦法【英】

The Eleven Practices of Ascetics

定义

阿练若、乞食、一处坐、一时食、正中食、不择家食、守三衣、坐树下、露坐闲静处、著补衲衣、在冢间住。若有人在十一年中，学此苦法，即于现身成阿那含，转身即成阿罗汉。

An ascetic should: (1) meditate in an isolated hermitage, removed from society; (2) always beg for food; (3) stay in one place; (4) eat only once each day; (5) eat only at midday; (6) eat in any place; (7) always wear the proper garments of a monk; (8) sit under a tree; (9) sit in open spaces in a monastery; (10) wear a monastic robe which has patches;（11）and dwell among graves.If one follows these ascetic practices for 11 years, he will break the cycle of reincarnation (ana^ga^min) in his present body, and transform into a saintly man, (an arhat, the highest type of saint in Hīnayāna Buddhism) after his rebirth.
