定义

经济伦理学术语。指企业不仅应该对它的所有者、员工和股东负有一定的责任，还应对整个社会负责任。最早提出这一概念的是Oliver Sheldon，他认为企业有责任对其影响到的其他的社会实体和社会环境负责任，企业有责任满足企业内部各种需求，他认为企业社会责不仅包含对经济利润的获取，还应该有其它因素的存在。而正式将这一定义带入人们视线的是美国学者伯文(Howard R. Bowen)，他在1953年出版的《商人的社会责任》一书中认为，如果企业在其决策中既考虑到自身利益，又意识到社会目标的话，那将给社会增加经济和社会效益。此后，戴维斯和布鲁斯特姆曾给社会责任下了一个明确的定义：“社会责任是指企业决策者有责任采取行动保护和促进整个社会的福利”（戴维斯等，转引自陈转青，2008：221-222）。他们提出企业应当采取两种行动：一是保护社会利益，即避免对社会产生负面影响。二是促进社会福利，即对社会创造积极的利益。Carroll将企业的社会责任分为四种类型：第一是经济责任，企业有义务生产社会所需的产品并出售它们来获利，如果一个企业在经济上无法生存的话，那么它的其他责任也无从谈起；第二是法律责任，企业在生产经营活动中，必须遵循国家和地方设立的法律法规；第三是伦理责任，伦理责任是对法律精神的回答，并有助于在法律条文不清楚或不存在时指导企业行为，一个有道德的企业所奉行的往往是超越法律之外的道德规范；第四是自由决定的责任或慈善责任，自由决定的责任与伦理责任的区别在于，前者是社会所希望的，做不做由企业自己决定，社会不可强求；而后者是社会所要求的，企业有应当做的道德义务（金炳华，冯契，2001：1259）。
