Dizhang

定义

绘画术语，即绘画的敷着体之称呼。中国画的地仗有：帛（帛画）、绢（绢画）、纸（纸本画）、木板（板画或壁画）、砖、石（画像石、砖等）。敦煌壁画的地仗为敷在冰川断层锈沙岩即酒泉系砾岩层上的草土泥和麻刀泥。

Dizhang: refers to the support (or surface) on which a painting is drawn. Traditional Chinese paintings can be put on various surfaces including bo (white silk), juan (deep-green silk), paper, wooden boards or planks (as in panel painting or murals), bricks, stone, etc. The dizhang for the Dunhuang murals is sod and hemp fiber mud adhered on glacier fault sandstone, namely, a conglomerate layered surface.
