佛教本生故事画，莫高窟现存北周第296窟、中唐第238、231窟、五代第146、98窟，其故事情节主要是善事与恶事求宝珠，恶事刺瞎善事双眼，夺走宝珠，善事得牛王及牧人相救并与王女结为夫妇，归还故国。

Paintings of the Buddha's past life, currently preserved in Cave 296 of the Northern Liang Dynasty, Cave 238 and Cave 231 of the Mid Tang Dynasty, and Cave 146 and Cave 98 of the Five Dynasties in Mogao Grottoes. As depicted in them, Prince Good Conduct and Prince Bad Conduct searched for a magic pearl together, but after finding it, the bad prince rendered his brother blind and snatched the pearl. Later, Prince Good Deeds was rescued by an ox king and a herdsman and got married with a princess, and finally he managed to return to his homeland.
