“Mockery of a Novice Monk”

七言打油诗。作者不详。原无题，抄于残《姓氏书》之后。诗云:“沙弥天生道理多，人名不得解人何!从头至尾没用姓，急若索字不得者。沙弥沙弥头拙疏!”似为抄书学士郎的即兴之作。

A seven-character humorous poem with its author unidentified. It is hand-copied at the end of the remaining parts of The Book of Family Names (Xingshi Shu), without a title. The poem reads: “The novice monk is born to know too many principles, but it is still hard for him to know who a person is without knowing the person’s name. Reading a text where no person’s name is mentioned, the monk is as anxious as one who fails to find a word in reference books. How clumsy and helpless the novice monk is!” The poem is believed to be an impromptu work by someone transcribing books.
