Bù dào Xītiān, bù zhī Fó dàxiǎo.

Lit [If one has] not visited the Western Heaven, [one can]not know the [relative] sizes [i.e., ranks] of the Buddhas.

Fig If one has not had personal experience, one cannot understand things (completely).
