Mogao Cave 55 (Song, AD 960-1279) preserves a group of sculptures depicting three Dharma assemblies with Maitreya at the central altar. It holds three sculptures of Maitreya, three Bodhisattvas, two malla (demigods), one disciple and one of Devaraja, making it the cave with the best preserved group of painted sculptures from the Song Dynasty.
