Donor Performers

定义

所谓“供养人”，就是信仰宗教出资绘制或建造圣像、开凿石窟的人。在供养人画像行列里常画一些奏乐歌舞的人物肖像画，在敦煌学研究中，音乐家把供养人画像中持乐演奏的人物画像，定名为供养人乐伎。

Donors or patrons were lay followers who supported the Dharma through sponsoring or commissioning Buddhist art and architecture projects, including sculptures, murals, and construction of cave temples. Portraits of musicians and dancers are frequently found among donor portraits. In Dunhuang research, these images are known as donor performers.
