定义

社会主义民主政治是无产阶级掌握国家政权，管理国家的政治制度。其本质和核心是人民当家作主，国家的一切权力属于人民。人民有权管理国家和社会各项事务，监督国家机关及其工作人员，依法享有人身、言论、出版、集会、结社、游行、示威等自由权利，在法律面前人人平等，其经济基础是社会主义生产资料公有制。社会主义民主政治是对人民民主和对敌人专政的辩证统一，没有人民民主就不能有效地对敌人实行专政，而对敌人的专政又是对人民民主的保障；在人民内部，是民主和集中的统一，人民既享受着广泛的民主和自由，同时又必须用社会主义的纪律约束自己，遵守社会主义法制。建设社会主义民主政治，是逐步发展的历史过程，需要从我国的国情出发，在党的领导下有步骤、有秩序地推进（社会主义民主政治.via. http://baike.so.com/doc/1176249-1244196.html）。社会主义民主政治是“人类社会政治文明的一种高级形式，具有强大的生命力和优越性”（金炳华，2002: 867）。社会主义民主政治的实现，在人类历史上第一次建立起了由全体人民组成的国家政权，国家一切权力属于人民的国家制度，即通常所说的“社会主义国家的国体与政体，国体决定政体，政体是国体的必然要求，保证条件和具体表现”（聂月岩：1998: 118）。发展社会主义民主政治，最根本的是要把坚持党的领导、人民当家作主和依法治国有机统一起来。只有坚持共产党领导的多党合作制和政治协商制度，才能就国家大事进行民主地、平等地、认真地讨论和协商；只有实行人民民主专政，才能切实保障人民的民主权利。人民民主专政是对绝大多数人实行充分的民主，对极少数人实行专政；坚持民主集中制的人民代表大会制度，是历史的选择，是人民的意愿，是最符合中国实际的；发挥社会主义民主的保障作用，推进社会主义民主政治的健康发展，完善政治体制改革，增强社会主义民主政治建设的强大动力。
