敦煌遗书和在石窟壁画中的古代音乐资料及其研究，包括文献和图像两个方面。前者指：(1) 莫高窟藏经洞所出之曲谱以及相关的材料。(2)藏经洞所出的舞谱中与音乐有关的材料。(3) 敦煌变文、经卷、曲子词以及唱赞等作品中的音乐材料。 (4) 敦煌文书中有关历代音乐材料的探索。 (5) 藏经洞所出绢画上的音乐形象资料。后者指敦煌壁画中的乐舞形象资料。

Ancient musical materials and musical research records in the Dunhuang manuscripts as well as the murals in the grottoes. They consist of two types: literature and images. The literature includes: (1) musical scores and related materials found in the Library Cave of the Mogao grottoes; (2) music related materials found in dance notations in the Grottoes; (3) music materials from Dunhuang transformed texts, religious manuscripts, and Buddhist song lyrics; (4) ancient music studies found in Dunhuang manuscripts; (5) musical elements on silk paintings found in the Library Cave. The category of images refers to musical dance images found on the murals at Dunhuang.
