定义

积极引导宗教与社会主义社会相适应，是我们党从社会主义初级阶段这一基本国情，特别是宗教在社会主义社会将长期存在的客观现实出发，总结新中国成立以来宗教工作的成功经验与挫折教训而作出的科学论断、取得的重要理论成果，是我们党对社会主义发展史上“宗教与社会主义”关系难题的正确解答，对马克思主义宗教观的极大丰富和发展。这一科学论断的提出，确立了我们党处理社会主义初级阶段宗教问题的大方向、大原则，它对我国宗教未来的发展，对建设中国特色社会主义伟大事业都有极其深远的意义。积极引导宗教与社会主义社会相适应的内涵和要求，概括起来就是江泽民同志2001年在全国宗教工作会议上的讲话中所阐述的“两个要求”和“两个支持”。“两个要求”是：要求宗教界人士和信教群众热爱祖国，拥护社会主义制度，拥护共产党的领导，遵守国家的法律、法规和方针政策；要求宗教界人士和信教群众从事的宗教活动要服从和服务于国家的最高利益和民族的整体利益。“两个支持”是：支持宗教界人士和信教群众努力对宗教教义作出符合社会进步要求的阐释；支持宗教界人士和信教群众与全国人民一道，反对一切利用宗教进行危害社会主义祖国和人民利益的非法活动，为民族团结、社会发展和祖国统一多作贡献（梁志忠等，2009：411-412）。“如果说我们的法律的、哲学的和宗教的观念，都是一定社会内占统治地位的经济关系的近枝或远蔓，那么，这些观念终究不能抵抗因这种经济关系的完全改变所产生的影响”（马克思等，1995：717）。作为社会上层建筑构成要素之一的宗教，尽管与其它的上层建筑相比有其特殊性，但宗教归根结底还是由一定社会的经济基础决定的。宗教与社会主义社会相适应的理论依据是宗教存在与发展的基本规律（王霞娟，2009：114-115），历史依据是中国传统社会与宗教之间的相互关系（王霞娟，2009：122），现实依据则是二者的社会基础和内在机制（王霞娟，2009：139-140）。
