定义

唯灵论是一种主张世界的本原是精神、灵魂或心灵的学说。认为物质作为心灵的产品或附属物，只不过是表象或假象，并不真实存在，唯有灵魂、心灵统治世界。唯灵论最早于19世纪下半叶出现于德国，后又流行于西欧英、法等国家。“唯灵论”一词常作为唯心主义的同义语。唯灵论宣称，一切物体都是有灵魂的。地球有 “地球灵魂”，世界有“世界灵魂”。而所谓“世界灵魂”，是一个包括一切的大灵魂，也就是上帝。其他的灵魂是这个大灵魂的一小部分。在唯灵论者看来，世界是存在的，不过是作为灵魂的外观而存在；世界也是统一的，不过是统一在上帝这个大灵魂中。唯灵论者往往采用各种骗术来“显示”神灵的存在，在近代欧洲的一些城市里，降神的骗术曾流行一时。如英国自然科学家华莱士就曾采用催眠术、颅相学、降神术等欺骗、迷信手段，来证明灵魂不死和神的存在。辩证唯物主义认为，人体中有灵魂存在的观念，最早起源于生产力水平极其低下的蒙昧时代，那时人们还无法解释梦中现象以及思想与肉体的关系。在阶级社会中，剥削阶级的思想家为了本阶级的利益而把人们的迷信观念更加系统化和神秘化，提出了唯灵论的学说，其目的是麻痹人民的意志，把人的思想禁锢在宗教迷信的枷锁中（刘炳瑛，1988：725）。
