定义

党的先进性建设，是以保持、发挥和实现党的先进性为根本目标的党建活动，是一项系统工程，是综合性、根本性的建设。中国共产党成立90年的历史证明，只有保持和发展先进性，才能经受住严峻的考验，取得革命、建设和改革开放的辉煌胜利。党的十六大以来，以胡锦涛同志为总书记的党中央，坚持和继承马克思列宁主义创始人和我们党三代中央领导集体关于党的先进性的重要思想，同时着眼于新的实践和新的发展，围绕加强党的先进性建设这个重大问题，明确提出了加强党的先进性建设的重大战略思想（宋庆勇，2008：1）。2005年1月14日，胡锦涛同志在新时期保持共产党员先进性专题报告会上的重要讲话中，第一次提出了“党的先进性建设”这一历史命题，阐明了加强党的先进性建设的一系列重要问题。胡锦涛同志指出:“加强党的先进性建设，始终是我们党生存、发展、壮大的根本性建设。”在内容上，党的先进性建设既包括思想理论的先进性、奋斗纲领和方针政策的先进性，也包括党的集体领导和工作机制的先进性、党的组织和党员队伍的先进性（吴成良，王文香，2006：28）。党的先进性建设是一个永恒的主题，这些历史经验对于此后不断推进党的先进性建设具有长期的指导作用。当然，随着党的先进性建设的不断发展，还会有新鲜经验补充进来。
