Yulin Grottoes

定义

又名榆林寺、万佛峡，敦煌石窟群之一。前有榆林河流过，因此得名。开凿时代不详，现存洞窟最早建于唐代，经五代、宋、回鹘、西夏续建，终于元。共有洞窟四十一个。1961年榆林窟被列为全国重点保护单位。

It is one group of the grottoes in Dunhuang, also known as Yulin Temple or Ten Thousand Buddha Gorge. They are so named because the Yulin River flows right in front of the grottoes; the original digging time of the Yulin Grottoes is unknown but the earliest grottoes existing today were built in the Tang Dynasty. During the Five Dynasties, the Song Dynasty, the Uyghur and the Tangut Regimes, the grottoes were constructed without stopping and were finished during the Yuan Dynasty with a total of 41 caves. In 1961, the Yulin Grottoes were listed as one of the major historical and cultural sites protected at the national level.
