Huqin (Vertical Lute)

弹拉类拉弦乐器。古亦称奚琴。是中国弦乐器中出现较晚的一种。为木制鼓形琴筒，蒙有皮膜，琴杆插入小鼓中，有千金隔弦，有码，二轸、二弦，头部为卷苏形，简侧有一弓，直线。其演奏姿势为左手持琴，右手持弓，与今日演奏方法相同。

A type of string instruments played with bows, also known as xiqin in ancient times. They appeared relatively late in history when compared with other Chinese string instruments. It has a wooden sound box, which is covered with leather. A neck is connected to the box. Other parts of the huqin include the qianjin (a small loop of string tied around the neck and strings), the ma (a small wooden bridge between the strings and the skin), two tuning pegs, and two strings. The head has a curled shape. A bow is drawn along the sound box. The player usually holds the huqin in their left hand and the bow in their right hand, which is the way the instrument is still played today.
