佛教本生故事画，现存莫高窟第428、249、423、427、419及9、454窟等窟，其故事情节多描绘须达拏太子施象、国王赶太子出城、沿途施舍、山中修行、婆罗门乞讨二子、太子回国等情节。

Paintings of the Buddha's past life, currently preserved in Cave 428, Cave 249, Cave 423, Cave 427, Cave 9 and Cave 454, etc. in Mogao Grottoes. As depicted in most of the paintings, Prince Vessantara was driven out of the palace by the king after gaving away the auspicious white elephant,, but he kept giving away his wealth on his way to a forest where he later lived a hermit life with his wife and two children. They also depict stories about how a brahmin asked Vessantara for his two children and how the prince ultimately returned to his kingdom.
