在敦煌艺术中专指阿难塑像。阿难，全称“阿难陀”，意译为欢喜、喜庆。是释迦牟尼的堂弟，佛的十大弟子之一，侍佛二十五年，多闻佛法，长于记忆，故称“多闻第一”。

Ananda Statues: refers to all statues of Ananda in Dunhuang grotto art. The name Ananda means “bliss” in Sanskrit. He was a first cousin of Gautama Buddha and one of his ten principal disciples. Having served as personal attendant to the Buddha for twenty five years, Ananda heard the Buddha's teachings the most among the disciples and had the most retentive memory. Therefore, he was ranked as the most erudite.
