Mahakasyapa Statues

在敦煌艺术中专指迦叶塑像。迦叶，全称“摩诃迦叶”，意即“大迦叶”。居释迦牟尼佛十大弟子之首位，少欲知足，苦修“头陀行”而成正果，故称“头陀第一”。

Mahakasyapa Statues: refers to all statues of Mahakasyapa or Kasyapa, also known as Jiaye in Chinese. As the first principal disciple of Gautama Buddha, he was said to have a contented mind and no worldly desire and attained immortality by unswervingly following the ascetic dhuta practice; therefore, he was considered the foremost in this practice.
