Mogao Cave 254: Sculpture of a Buddha in Meditation

定义

北魏塑造，位于中心塔柱北面龛内。结跏趺坐，双手施禅定印，身穿通肩式袈裟，塑像通体被熏黑，略失艺术魅力。

A statue (Northern Wei, AD 386-557) found in the north-facing niche in the central pillar. Dressed in a kasaya that covers both shoulders with U-shaped folds (tongjian), the Buddha is sitting in full lotus pose and making the Gesture of Meditation (Dhyana Mudra). The body blackened by smoke has somewhat weakened the statue’s artistic appeal.
