定义

社会主义精神文明论是建立在社会主义生产关系基础之上的精神生产和精神生活的理论成果。社会主义精神文明的理论研究是搞好社会主义精神文明建设的前提，也是社会主义精神文明建设本身必不可少的部分。社会主义精神文明是社会主义的重要特征，是社会主义优越性的重要体现，是社会主义现代化建设的重要保证。邓小平指出，我们要建设的社会主义国家，不但要有高度的物质文明，而且要有高度的精神文明。所谓精神文明，不但是指教育、科学、文化，而且是指共产主义的思想、理想、信念、道德、纪律、革命的立场和原则，人与人之间同志式关系。党的十四政治报告指出，同经济、政治的改革和发展相适应，以有理想、有道德、有文化、有纪律为目标，建设社会主义精神文明。党的十五大报告指出，只有经济、政治、文化协调发展，只有两个文明都搞好，才有中国特色的社会主义。建设高度的社会主义精神文明，既是历史唯物主义，也是科学社会主义的基本理论和基本实践问题。社会主义精神文明建设包括思想道德建设和科学文化建设两方面，渗透在整个物质文明建设之中，体现在经济、政治、文化、社会生活的各个方面。社会主义建设的实践表明，“抓不抓精神文明建设，精神文明建设搞得好不好，这绝对不是一个小问题”（江流主，1987：80）。在社会主义建设中，政治、经济、文化是不可分割的统一整体，物质文明是基础，精神文明是强大的推动力，而民主法治建设是二者的保证。只有在批判资本主义腐朽思想的同时，肃清封建主义的遗毒，改造小农思想和心理，才能建设以共产主义思想为核心的高度的社会主义精神文明。
