定义

理想主义与现实主义相对，是高于现实并能调校现实的一种思想倾向。理想主义的哲学观念主要体现在对人性和世界的看法上。首先，在人性问题上，理想主义学派主张人性是善的或者至少是可以改造的。它关于人性的思想主要源于文艺复兴时期的人类完美主义，认为人类的自然状态固有的性质是和谐的，个人利益和社会利益是协调的，只是由于某些人的良知误入歧途才导致国家间的冲突与战争，良知一旦被唤醒，误解一旦被消除，人类社会仍旧会恢复到和谐、友善的美好社会(邢爱芬等，2001：54)。理想主义还认为人类是可以自我完善的，至少是可以自我改善的。环境决定人类行为，环境因素的改变是改造人类的基础。可见，理想主义对人性是持乐观态度的，他们相信人类总是在不断进步和向好的方向发展的。其次，在对世界的看法上，理想主义信奉理性原则，认为社会和世界“应该如何”，也即强调世界的“应然”，对世界持乐观主义态度。在理想主义看来，“目的和意图先于观察，柏拉图的理想先于亚里士多德的分析”(詹姆斯·多尔蒂等，2003：73)。理想主义者倾向于由理性指导人的行为，并据此来改造世界以实现边沁的所谓人类的“善”(即绝大多数人的最大的幸福)（侯仕福，2007：5）。
