定义

洞窟形制之一。以涅槃像为主体的洞窟。佛像侧卧，前无遮挡，故平面一般均作横长方形。莫高窟的涅槃窟均为唐代修造。佛像为石胎泥塑。穹顶作盝顶形，其盝顶披断面为凹曲线。

It is one shape of grottoes with the statue of Buddha’s nirvana as the subject. Buddha lies on one side with no shelter in the front, so the place of the statue is normally a horizontal rectangle. All nirvana grottoes in the Mogao Grottoes were built in the Tang Dynasty and the Buddha statue was molded with clay and padded with stone. The dome of such a grotto is a lu roof, with concave-shaped sectional surfaces.
