定义

虚无主义在民族问题上的表现。虚无主义一词系德文Nihilismus的意译，源出于拉丁文nihil(虚无)，德国唯心主义哲学家F·H·雅科比在《给费希特的信》中首先使用。德国唯心主义哲学家F·尼采把否定历史传统和道德原则的现象称之为虚无主义。民族虚无主义，则是否定民族特点，抹煞民族差别、文化传统和历史遗产，甚至认为“民族”是虚构的概念，实质上是大民族主义的一种表现（徐万邦等，1995：327）。其基本特征是：否认一切民族特征，蔑视民族的历史传统和文化遗产，抹杀被压迫民族与压迫民族的界限，诬蔑被压迫民族争取独立的解放斗争是“地方极权主义”，认为“民族”是一个虚构的概念，鼓吹建立超民族的“个性自由”。19世纪中叶，无政府主义者蒲鲁东及其信徒曾宣扬民族虚无主义，否认民族自决权，认为小民族的分离是根本不能实现的乌托邦；主张由大民族吞并小民族（康绍邦等，1991：122）。马克思曾嘲笑法国蒲鲁东主义者宣布“民族性为无稽之谈”，“一切民族特征和民族本身都是陈腐偏见”的论点。在帝国主义时代，资产阶级往往利用民族虚无主义为其侵略和奴役其他民族、建立世界霸权进行辩护。被压迫民族中的反动阶级也将其作为出卖民族利益的借口。邓小平指出，“丧失国格，丧失民族自尊心，这是非常可耻的”（邓小平，1994：338）。民族虚无主义否定各民族的平等权利，破坏民族团结和各民族的进步事业。马克思主义者在反对民族压迫的同时，也反对民族虚无主义。
