Story of Zhang Huaishen

唐代变文。作于乾符年间(874-879)，内容直叙时事，记张淮深击破回鹊，奏捷京华，皇帝遣使重赐褒奖。后回鹃又兴兵来犯，张淮深再次出征，又获大捷。表现了敦煌地区人民对中央朝廷的忠诚和依恋，兼具史料价值。

A bianwen text from the Tang Dynasty. Written during the Qianfu Reign (AD 874–879), it gives a vivid account of the events at that time. According to the story, when the news that Zhang Huaishen defeated the Uyghurs reached the capital, the emperor was so delighted that he sent an envoy to reward Zhang Huishen with riches. Later when the Uyghur troops attacked again, Zhang was able to gain victory over them once more. The story reflects the loyalty and attachment of ancient Dunhuang people to the Tang imperial court and is of great historical value.
