The Lotus Sutra is one of the most popular and influential Mahayana sutra in ancient India and Nepal. Its title is usually abbreviated to Fahuajing (法华经). It purports to record the sermons of Shakyamuni Buddha in his later life, which emphasize that people are all equal regardless of their socioeconomic status and that everyone is able to become a Buddha, mostly in the form of parables.
