Tathagatagarbha Sutra

定义

佛教经典，宣扬一切众生虽在诸趣烦恼身中，但均有如来藏常无染污。如来出世广说诸法，除灭烦恼，即显如来藏之如如本性。

A sutra which makes the claim that while sentient beings are born into the cycle of suffering and thus experience endless afflictions, they still have the seed of the Buddha, or the womb which carries a future Buddha (tathagatagarbha), which is pure and apart from impurity or defilement. When the Buddha appeared in the world to teach the dharma, he meant to save sentient beings from suffering, or to allow their seed of the Buddha to manifest its true nature.
