管理学中,国际环境（international environment）指包括国外产生的各种影响企业经营的事件或者是机遇。国际环境对于其他外部环境因素都有影响（《国际环境》，via: http://baike.so.com/doc/766494-811039.html）。在19世纪，中国人对世界的认识是立足于确信自己是世界中心的基础之上的。这种以我为中心的观点在很大程度上被其邻近的附庸国家在政治方面（如内亚大陆）、礼仪方面（南亚大陆）、文学和文化方面（日本），或其他方面（朝鲜）所接受。中国人认为自己由地区争霸所发展起来的中间之国就是中心。虽然中国人在先天向外国寻求智慧的积极性不高，但若把中国向外借鉴的缓慢性全部归咎于他们沉湎更加朴实而辉煌的过去，是不准确的。确切地说，这种缓慢是由清朝制度中固有的局限性和固有的种族中心论所造成的。国际环境是中国现代化起步时期蒙受曲折的主要原因。因为西方的冲击必然有限，他没有深入到中国的内陆，也未对经济、尤其是国内贸易产生强大的影响（刘东，2014: 205）。
