或名三所禅窟，即今敦煌莫高窟、安西榆林窟和敦煌西千佛洞；三处石窟群又分别称窟上（莫高窟）东窟（榆林窟）、西窟（西千佛洞）。

It is also known as the three meditation grottoes, referring to the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang, the Yulin Grottoes in Anxi and the West Thousand Buddha Caves in Dunhuang. These three groups of grottoes are also called the upper grottoes (the Mogao Grottoes), the east grottoes (the Yulin Grottoes) and the west grottoes (the West Thousand Buddha Caves).
