1.应允，认可 agree; allow; permit ( comb. 允- yǔn-、准- zhǔn- permit, allow)：特～ tèxǔ give special permission/ 不～ bùxǔ not allow ext. 承认其优点 agree one's merit：赞～ zànxǔ approval/ 推～ tuīxǔ recommend sth. agreeably/ ～为佳作 xǔ wéi jiāzuò recognize one's works as a piece of excellent writing
2.预先答应给与 promise to give：我～给他一本书 Wǒ xǔgěi tā yī běn shū. I promise to give him a book./ 以身～国 yǐshēn-xǔguó dedicate one's life for his motherland
3.或者，可能 or; maybe：也～ yěxǔ perhaps/ 或～ huòxǔ or/ 他下午也～来 Tā xiàwǔ yěxǔ lái. He may come this afternoon.
