佛教本生故事画，莫高窟现存有北周第296窟、五代第98窟、宋代第55窟等诸例，该故事均采用连环画描绘，故事情节为国王逾城出逃，误入歧途，须阇提割肉为父母充饥，国王成功借兵复国。

Paintings about the Buddha's past life, currently preserved in Cave 296 of the Northern Zhou Dynasty, Cave 98 of the Five Dynasties and Cave 55 of the Song Dynasty etc. in Mogao Grottoes. Stories are depicted in a serial way. According to the paintings, to escape the murder by a treacherous minister, the king fled the palace with his wife and his son Prince Sujati. Later when they went astray and their provisions ran out, the Prince, a son of filial piety, offered his own flesh to his parents. At the end, the king was restored to the throne with the assitance of troops from a neighboring country.
