绘制在洞窟外岩壁上的壁画。五代、宋代敦煌曹氏家族在莫高窟普遍修建窟檐，窟檐周围的岩壁或大块空旷岩壁上绘制壁画，以美化石崖外观和防止岩面风化。绘制的内容有飞天、伎乐、力士、天王、比丘僧、团花图案等。

Outdoor Murals: murals painted on cliff surfaces outside the grottoes. In the Five Dynasties and the Song Dynasty, as ordered by the Cao clan who ruled Dunhuang at that time, eaves were often built over the opening of grottoes with murals painted around the eaves or on exposed cliffs for aesthetics and to prevent weathering. These outdoor murals display flying apsaras, celestial musicians, strong men, Heavenly Kings, and bhiksu monks and round floral patterns, etc.
