Assistant Dharma Master (Dujiang)

定义

①儒学称谓。在讲学时专司诵读经文，并主持学舍日常事务，称之为都讲。②佛家称谓。魏晋以后僧人开讲佛经，每以一人唱诵经文并设难发问，称为都讲。唐代俗讲僧中专司唱诵经文的亦称都讲。

(1) A title in Confucianism, referring to a scholar specifically in charge of reciting sutras during lectures and who serves as the administrator of daily affairs in a school. (2) A Buddhist title. After the Wei and Jin Dynasties, when monks conducted a sutra preaching ceremony, usually one particular monk was designated to recite and chant sutras and raise questions about the scriptures; that monk was known as a dujiang. It also refers to the monk specifically in charge of reciting and chanting scriptures among the monks who conducted sutra preaching for lay people during the Tang Dynasty.
