定义

物质利益又称经济利益。人们在社会经济活动中所形成的个人的、集团的或阶级的利益，是人们进行一切社会活动的经济动因。在每一社会中，人们的经济关系首先通过利益表现出来，物质利益是人们经济关系的具体体现。人们的物质利益是由生产资料所有制以及人们在社会生产中的地位决定的。在现阶段，人们奋争的一切，归根到底与物质利益有关。人们进行物质资料生产，直接为了获得维持自身生存和发展所需要的物质条件即物质利益；从事政治文化活动，最终也是为了自身和集团的物质利益，或是为了巩固既得物质利益，或是为了谋取未来的物质利益。在以生产资料私有制为基础的阶级社会中，物质利益表现为阶级的经济利益；并为此而展开斗争，剥削与被剥削阶级之间是这样，在社会形态交替时期不同剥削阶级之间，以至于同一社会形态中同一剥削阶级内部不同集团派系之间也是如此。这是支配阶级社会历史发展的客观规律。在以生产资料公有制为基础的社会主义条件下，虽消失了经济利益的对抗性矛盾，但仍然存在长远利益与目前利益的矛盾，国家利益、集体利益和个人利益之间的矛盾，这些非对抗性矛盾则可以根据统筹兼顾、适当安排的原则加以协调。（韩双林等, 1993：493）
