Records of Dance in Dunhuang Murals and Manuscripts

敦煌遗书和石窟壁画中的古代舞蹈资料及其研究，包括文献和图像两个方面。前者指莫高窟藏经洞所出之舞谱以及相关材料，藏经洞所出绢画上的舞蹈形象资料。后者指敦煌壁画中的舞蹈形象资料。这些舞蹈可归纳为四类。（1）表现人间社会生活、风俗习尚的乐舞场面和舞蹈形象。（2）天宫仙界的舞蹈形象。（3）供养伎乐。（4）经变画中的乐舞。

Ancient records of dances and their research in Dunhuang manuscripts and in the murals found in the grottoes. There are two categories – manuscripts and images. The category of literature includes dance notations and related materials as well as depictions of dances on silk paintings found in the Library Cave of the Mogao Grottoes. The category of images refers to depictions of dances in the Dunhuang murals. The dances can be divided into four types: (1) the scenes of musical dance that depict the social life, customs and the habits of mortal humans; (2) scenes of dance set in the heavenly palace; (3) depictions of the musical dance performances of Buddhist donors; (4) the musical dance shown in sutra illustration paintings.
