定义

形而上学美学，一种与辩证法相对的美学思想体系，特征在于用孤立、静止、片面、表面的观点与方法来研究和阐述美的创造、本质、特征以及美感的发生、发展、性质。主要观点包括：（1）美与审美意识是常驻不变、孤立存在的；（2）如果有变化，也只是数量、形式的变迁；（3）变化的原因不在于内因，而是外力的作用；（4）事物如果有联系也只是外部的联系，而没有内部的、本质的联系。“形而上学美学在古代即已产生，启蒙运动前后，许多经验主义美学家将自然科学的原理运用于美学，使形而上学美学思想逐步形成系统。”（金炳华，2003：596）。哲学史上很多哲学家们对形而上学美学思想进行了论述，如：柏拉图的“理念论”，认为美是绝对的、不生不灭、无增无减、无始无终的，具有绝对主义、神秘主义特征；休谟认为美没有质的规定性和客观标准，不同的人有不同的审美标准，具有相对主义的特征；博克认为美只存在于事物外部，美的获得与理智无关，只依靠人的感官机械，具有机械论、外因论和形式主义的特征；笛卡儿认为美和美感是相互独立、性质不同的本原，客观美对美感不具有影响和作用，具有折衷主义的特征；另外一些美学家从生物生理学的角度解释美和美感，具有庸俗进化论和形而上学的特征。由大多数哲学家对形而上学美学思想观点的论述及其特征来看，形而上学美学思想同唯心主义美学、机械唯物主义美学、二元论美学等有着内在的联系。与传统的形而上学美学思想相比，现代一些美学家认为形而上学美学是专指主张物质第一性的唯物主义美学和马克思主义美学；或者是主张美是超越人的感性经验的形而上学的存在的美学；或者认为形而上学美学就是从一定的哲学体系出发探讨美的本质的哲学美学，也叫“形而上的美学”、“自上而下的美学”，与从具体到一般地探讨艺术美、审美心理的“自下而上的美学”相区别。
