The Travels of Zhang Qian to the West: painted on the north wall of the main hall of Cave 323(Early Tang, AD 618-712), The Travels of Zhang Qian to the West is a narrative painting depicting historical events in Buddhism, drawn according to the “Chapter of Shilaozhi” (Brief Introduction to the History of Buddhism and Taoism) in The Book of Wei.
