色彩分布的代号，寺观壁画一般有师徒集体合作完成，师傅起稿决定色彩分布，用符号标注，徒弟布色，故称之。

These are marks used to indicate the layout of colors on the murals. Typically, the murals in temples were completed jointly by mural painting masters and their apprentices. The masters decided the layout of the mural colors and the apprentices would apply colors, according to the marks made by the masters in the process of painting.
