“Ritual-Opening Prayer about a Monk Officer” (Zuojie Senglu)

五代押座文。首言“敕天下三十州内，建造舍利塔”，僧人葵同奉命监造，节度刺史县令傅常用正库钱物修造，下接韵文二十六句，宣扬人生无常，劝众生抛却爱痴，以除烦恼。

A ritual-opening prayer from the Five Dynasties. It begins with lines that read: “In carrying out the imperial order of building sharira-stupas across all the 30 prefectures in the nation, the monk Kuitong was dispatched to supervise the building process and he required Fu Chang, prefectural governor and county magistrate, to build the stupa only with funds from the national treasury.” Right after these lines is a verse of 26 lines which expounds impermanence and encourages all beings to abandon desire and ignorance so as to get rid of afflictions.
