红土又称土红，色泽鲜明柔和，敦煌壁画大量使用就地取材的红土描线、涂色。

"Hongtu", or "red soil"—which can also be called "tuhong", or "soil red"—is a type of dirt, the color of which is bright and soft. Local red soil was used to draw lines and add color to the Dunhuang murals.
