Four fundamental sutras and scriptures of the original form of Buddhism, which include: the Dīrghāgama, “long” treatises on the origins of the universe; the Madhyamāgama, “middle length” treatises on metaphysics; the Ekottarāgama, “numerical” treatises on numerical subjects; and the Saṃyuktāgama, “miscellaneous” treatises on issues of abstract contemplation.
