It is a novel from the late Tang Dynasty, relating the story of Tang Dynasty Emperor Taizong’s journey to the underworld where Yama, the King of Hell, commands his assistant Cui Ziyu to judge the good and bad deeds of the Emperor during his life. The whole work is written in prose style with no poetic lines or lyrics.
